Rotation

Rotation is the sequence of lanes racers take in order to progress through heats main events. There are two standard types of rotation, straight and European.

Straight Rotation
In straight rotation, racers progress to their right one lane. The advantage is simplicity, but the drawback is that if you are lined up next to a competitor who is slow, reckless, inexperienced or having car troubles, you are stuck next to them throughout the entire race. Lane rotation is 12345678.

European Rotation
Using European rotation has the advantage of not being lined up next to the same competitor twice. The disadvantage is the complexity of the rotation. Lane rotation is 13578642.

Sit-Outs
If there are more racers than lanes; use the round robin method format so people sit out certain heats, as determined by the rotation order. If your first lane of the race is the last lane in rotation and there are more racers than lanes, you will sit out after your first heat, then come back in on the first lane in the rotation, continuing through the rotation order.

Lane Numbers
Lanes are numbered from inside to outside, when viewed from the drivers' positions
